SETt3ACK FOR LOT 16, STUTTS CIRCLE SUBDIVISION
island Point Road, Catawba County, N.C.
SRME, Inc, Job No. 1583-07-063
Dear Mr. Cash,
According to conversations with i~ir. Chip Bridges, you hat{ rnquested that S&M E, jrtc (SStMk.) auger
holes in the 50 foot setbactc from lake Norman on Lot 16, Stutts Circte Subdivision t.o evaluate the
potential far on-site septic systems. We und~"rstand that you, your staffi, and Mr. Bridges met on the lot
November 2$. 2007 al,d evaluated -:he area between the house and the street, but needed soil profile
descriptions between the house and lake so that the first 2U feet of t:hc lake buffer could be reserved as
repair area for the lot.
S&141E had done some preliminary soils and system layout work nn the lot previously and revisited the lot
. on November 29, 2007 and augured hvo holes approximately 25-30 feet from the lake to evaluate the
soils for potential septic system suitability. The approximate berths locations arc on the attached site
plan. huger boring one laad provisionally suitable soil to approximately 22 inches deep and then
provisionally suitable sandy loam saprolitc to ~9 inches deep. Auger boring 2 had provisionally suitable
soil to 48 inches deep. We described the sc~i{ / saprolitc at these two borings as provisionally suil.able for
septic systems at a Ll'AR of 0.3-U.4 gallons per day per square foot. Based on the DEH 1 SA NCAC 13A
.1904 rules and the NCI)ENR 1 Sa\ NCAC 42.6 .0213 Catawba River Basin :Protection and Maintenance
of 1/xisting Riparian Buffer rules the: first 20 feet of the buffer should be useably for septic systems ifthc
effluent is pretreated.
It is our understanding that your office will determine overall lot suitability and issue an hnprovement
Permit. This letter is to only describe the two auger borings dug in the lake setback. Please review the
attached soil profile descriptions and cAll if youu have any questions.
