Based upon the final start-up inspection conducted on July 22nd 2009, the system appears to be constructed and operating in general conformance with the plans and specifications submitted by BEA dated 5/08/2009. Minor field adjustments were made for some tank locations. These changes are reflected on an "as-built" schematic/ sketch. The approximate installed tank locations were estimated by the engineer and are enclosed with the submittal. No As-Built survey was conducted. The float switches appeared to be set at the levels specified in the plans. The dosing system was delivering effluent to Manifolds #1, #2, #3, and #4 with at least 2.0 feet of residual head which is more than the minimum required. All of the manifolds were throttled back to 2.0 feet of residual head during start up. Manifold #4 was throttled back even further to achieve the desired flow rate of approximately 17 gpm. It is desirable for this zone to have a lower flow rate than the other zones because it is much smaller. After reviewing the data collected during start up and the "Manifold Orfice Calculations" included in the original submittal, the engineer does make the following recommendations for operation of the system: ■ Manifold #4 should remain adjusted to have 1 foot of residual head. This provides an approximate flow rate of 17 gpm to the smallest zone. ■ Manifolds #3 and 92 should be adjusted to have 4.5 feet of residual head. This should provide a flow rate of approximately 30 gpm to the medium sized zones. ■ Manifold #1 should be adjusted to have 6.3 feet of residual head (possibly full throttle). This should provide a flow rate of approximately 36 gpm to the largest zone. 17 Arlington St. Asheville, NC 28801 www.brooksea.com ph. 828.232.4700 (x.828.232.1331 The above residual heads and flow rates are desirable to provide the correct proportions of flow to the zones based on the proportion of drainfield lateral that is in that zone. Once the above adjustments are made, the run and rest times set during start up (9 minutes on, and 5 hours off) will be the correct settings to ensure proper operation of the system. The cut-sheets for the tanks that were substituted during installation are provided as Attachment A of this letter. It is our understanding that the system will be issued a Permit to Operate upon contracting with a certified operator. We appreciate your cooperation with this project.
