Subject: landlord refuses to fix septic tank
Dear Mr. Cash,
June 20 our landlord dug up our septic tank and left it that way, kept saying he'd be back in a day or two. July 2 we sent him a letter (attached) stating we were not going to pay rent
until he pumped the tank and filled up the hole. July 6 he showed up and told my wife the work was complete and asked for the check. She is pregnant and was not feeling well so she gave
him the check without looking at what he did. Which was put a piece of cement over the hole and prop it up with some tree branches and cover up part of the original hole he dug. I have
four children, ages 18mo to 8years, and my wife is pregnant. This "septic chimney" smells terrible, seems to breed mosquitoes and I am scared to let my wife or kids go outside for fear
of catching hepatitis or who knows what else. What can I do? Frankly I am afraid to have him do any more work on it because he is obviously going to do as shabby a job as he can get
away with and my family's health is at stake.
Below is a link to a photograph of the "septic chimney." Below that is a link to the letter we sent at the beginning of the month. Below that is a link to a gallery containing photographs
of the way it was left originally, followed by five photographs (the last five on page two) of its current state.
I greatly appreciate any advise or assistance you can provide.
Sincerely,
Fuzz Leonard
