"A written response, along with clouded revisions shall be provided with any resubmittal required as a result of this review." Response: This written response, the revised drawing sheets with the revisions clouded and dated July 7, 2011, and request exterior wall sectional drawings are resubmitted for your review. 2. "This project may require special inspections, in accordance with NCBC Section 1704.12. Provide details on this system to determine if special inspections are required." Response: Details of the Exterior Insulation Finish System (EIFS) are included with the revised drawing dated July 7, 2011. Special Inspections are not required per 1704.12, Exception1 which states, "Special inspections shall not be required for EIFS applications installed over a water - resistant barrier with a means of draining moisture to the exterior." The EIFS for this project will be a drainable StoTherm Rainscreen or equivalent applied over the pre- engineered building metal wall panel system. 3. "Provide Pre - Manufactured metal building drawings or a letter from building manufacturer stating the design parameters of this building meet or exceed those required by the 2009 NCBC." Response: Primax Construction Inc. has provided a copy of the pre - engineered metal building drawings with this letter. 4. "Page B1.E — Edition of code is incorrect. Edition shall be 2009 NCBC." Response: The Building Code Reference on revised and clouded Sheet B1.E has been changed to "2009 NCBC ". 5. "Page A2.E — Provide complete exterior wall sectional drawings. Drawings must detail all components. If EIFS is not a drainable system, Special inspections are required, and designer must provide a statement of special inspections." Response: The requested exterior wall sectional drawings are provided with this letter as part of the project resubmittal documents. As stated in the response to comment 2. Above, the EIFS will be a drainable system and will not require special inspections. 6. "Page A2.E — Provide typical wall section(s), for all interior walls." Response: Drawings of the typical interior wall sections are included with this letter as part of the project resubmittal documents. archSTUDIO 7 301 N. Main Street Suite 1201 Winston -Salem North Carolina 336 - 306 -4338 7. "Page F1.E — Provide a plan view and elevations of the checkout counter. Checkout counters must meet the accessibility requirements of 2009 NCBC 1109.12.2 and ICC /ANSI A117.1 — 2003 sections 904.4." Response: A plan view and elevations of the checkout counter drawings are included with this letter, and are shown on Sheet F1.E as part of the project resubmittal documents. Case #: FIRE -6 -11 -11248 The following are written responses to the Hickory Fire Department Review comments as requested by Kelly Davis. 1. "Verify if grilling noted on exterior of main entrance (appears to be under exterior entry ceiling) on sheet F1.E is referring to LP Gas Cylinder Storage /Exchange. See Chapter 38 of the 2009 North Carolina Fire Prevention Code for references that regulate storage and handling of LP Gas. Verify proper storage distances from building and openings are being provided and proper protection (vehicle impact) is being provided. If relocated required exit accesses, exits, exit discharges shall be continually maintained free from obstructions or impediments to full instant use in the case of fire or other emergency." Response: The grills have been deleted from this project. 2. "Verify that exiting is not being directed from the mercantile sales area into and through the receiving area, exit sign is shown to be on the mercantile side." Response: The exit sign on the mercantile side of the common wall between the Sales Area and the Receiving Area has been deleted. Exiting from the Sales Area is directed with exit signs through Door 102 or Door 106. General Comments: 3. "Plan review noted Detex Alarm Panic Hardware to be install, NOTE; Delayed egress locks are not approved unless compliance with 1008.1.8.6 of the 2009 North Carolina Fire Prevention Code. NOTE: The contractor for the installation of delayed egress /access controlled egress shall obtain a permit from the Fire Prevention Bureau prior to installation. Applications are available upon request, 828 - 323 -7522 or available on line at hftp://www.hickoryciov.com/department/division.php?fDD+8-13 Response: The Contractor shall submit for and obtain a permit for delay egress /access control door hardware prior to installation. 4. "Portable fire extinguishers shall be selected, installed and maintained in accordance with Section 906 of the 2009 North Carolina Fire Prevention Code and NFPA 10." Response: Installed portable fire extinguishers will comply with this comment. 5. "In public area of Mercantile occupancies the minimum clear aisle width shall be determined by Section 1005.1 of the 2009 Building and Fire Code for the occupant load served, but shall not be less than 36 inches." Response: Sales Area aisles will comply with this comment. 6. "In Mercantile occupancies fabric partitions suspended from the ceiling and not supported by the floor shall meet the flame propagation performance criteria in accordance with Section 807.2 and NFPA 701 or shall be noncombustible." Response: Suspended fabric partitions installed as part of this project will comply with this comment. 7. "If receiving is utilized for storage, storage shall not exceed heights allowed by the 2009 North Carolina Fire Prevention Code." Response: Storage heights will comply with the 2009 North Carolina Fire Prevention Code requirements. 8. "Merchandising on display in Sales Area shall not be within 2 feet of ceiling if racking would allow the height." Response: Merchandising in the Sales Area will not be within 2 feet of the 10' -0" high ceiling. archSTUDIO 7 301 N. Main Street Suite 1201 Winston -Salem North Carolina 336 - 306 -4338 i 9. "Storage of hazardous materials and flammable /combustible liquids is not allowed over the exempt amounts." Response: Stored hazardous materials and flammable /combustible liquids will be less than the exempt amount. 10. "Street numbers shall be posted on the building and visible from the roadway. Numbers shall contrast with their background. Numbers shall be a minimum of 4 inches high with a minimum stroke width of o.5 inches." Response: Compliant street numbers facing Highway 70 will be posted on the building. 11. See 09 North Carolina Building Code Chapter 33 Safeguards During Construction and sections of 09 North Carolina Fire Prevention Code Chapter 14 Fire Safety During Construction and Demolition that would be applicable to this project. Response: Safeguards and safety during the construction of this project will comply with the code chapters referenced in this comment. 12. "The building or structure shall not be occupied prior to the code official issuing a permit that indicates that applicable provisions of the NC Fire Code have been met." Response: The building will not be occupied until permitted by the authorities having jurisdiction over the project. 113. "Occupant shall obtain a Fire Department Use Permit. Response: Dollar General will obtain a Fire Department Use Permit.
