Plan Review Comments
GKN Sinter Metals
Dust Collection Project
Mr. Lamb
Below are the responses to your comments on the plan review of the above referenced project.
Item #2 Appendix B has been added to the new set of submitted drawings.
Item #3 The dust collector and fan are located in a non hazardous location on the exterior of the
building.
f Item #4 The design of the exhaust discharge has been changed to meet the requirements of 501.2
of the NCMC.
Item #5 A manual start/stop control will installed to control the dust collection system and since
the fan will be downstream of the dust collector and out of the dust air stream, an explosion
proof fan and motor will not be required to meet section 503.1 and 503.2.
Item #6 Section 510.5.5 make up air requirement are meet by an existing roof mounted louvered
penthouse outside air intake. The location and size of the outside air intake are shown on the
drawing.
Item #7 The exhaust duct does not penetrate any fire rated walls and therefore Section 510.6 will
not apply.
Item #8 Per the NFPA the exhaust system does not convey organic material therefore a fire
suppression system is not required per Section 510.7.
Item#9 The duct construction specifications were added to the drawings to show that material and
thicknesses of material meet the requirement of Section 510.8 for non abrasive dust.
Item# 10 The note was added to the drawing to indicate minimum duct support intervals required
t per Section 510.9.
Item #11 The dust collector was relocated to a minimum of 10 feet from the exterior wall per
Section 511.11.
1
Item #12 The fan discharge was redesigned to discharge air a minimum 10 feet above grade with a
metal screen on the outlet per Section 511.1.4.
Item # 13 Neither the manufacturing area of the plant nor the exterior of the building where the dust
collector are located are electrically classified areas.
We appreciate you thorough review of the drawings for this project and if I can answer any
questions, please do not hesitate to call.
Sincerely,
Z 4
