This project consist of a new interior door and sidelite with a magnetic locking system at the existing primary entrance lobby of the special care unit of Hickory Village located at 427 Third Avenue S.E. in Hickory, NC 28602. The final working drawings are approved for construction provided we receive satisfactory written responses to the following review comments: 1. Means of egress doors in Group I-2 occupancy must provide a 41.5-inch clear opening width. Typically a 3-foot, 8-inch door is required to achieve this opening width which excludes the frame stop and door thickness. Revise the door size or furnish door details to show how a 41.5-inch clear opening is provided. [NCSBC Section 1008.1.1] 2. Verify that an exit sign is readily visible from each corridor at the existing Lobby exterior door. If not, add or relocate an exit sign that is readily visible from each corridor at this new door location. [NCSBC Section 1011.1] 3. Verify a wiring diagram is to be provided under glass adjacent to the fire alarm panel. [NCSBC Section 407.9 3.3] 4. Verify emergency lighting is provided at the door. [NCSBC Section 407.9 3.5] 5. Drawings show a keyed emergency release switch to be used. Verify that provisions are made so Project No. HA-2923-MB/DS April 5, 2011 Hickory Village Page 2 of 2 Interior Door Addition that all staff that are responsible for the evacuation of occupants carry emergency release switch keys at all times. [NCSBC Section 407.9 3.4] 6. Note this new installation shall be approved by the appropriate fire and building inspection authority prior to installation, after installation, and prior to initial use and reviewed periodically thereafter. [NCSBC Section 407.9 3.4] Submit one set of revised final drawings showing how the conditions above will be met with your written response to the comments listed above. This project was reviewed with the understanding that this project was designed under the 2009 edition of the NC State Building Codes as renovations to an existing 14,802 square foot, fully-sprinklered building of Type V-A construction under Group I-2 occupancy.
