Box 1239 Hickory, NC 28601 RE: New Snow Creek Elementary School — Catawba County, NC Dear Mr. Smith: Construction Document submittal of the above project has been reviewed by the Engineering Division — NCDOI for general compliance with the North Carolina State Building Code in accordance with GS 58 -31-40 and the North Carolina Administrative Code and Policies Section 104.1. This project is released for foundation and shell permit only. Prior to release for upfit permit, the comments in this letter must be satisfactorily addressed. Code sections quoted in this letter refer to Volume I of the North Carolina State Building Code, 2006 edition unless otherwise noted. Below are our comments: We will await submittal of water flow test, hydraulic calculations and automatic sprinkler shop drawings prior to upfit permitting. The automatic sprinkler system drawings and calculations shall be prepared by a registered engineer or a NICET Level III technician. Designer's signature and registration number shall be provided on the drawings and calculations. [NC General Statute §87- 21(b)3 In addition, the drawings should bear the signed shop drawing stamp of the Engineer of Record, indicating he has reviewed the drawings and calculations and found them to comply with the project specifications and the NCSBC. NCDOI's copy is for record purposes. Sprinkler drawings are requested to verify the design was performed by a qualified design professional and to verify that the FOR has properly reviewed the sprinkler drawings and coordinated them with his drawings. Detailed checking of the sprinkler design is the responsibility of the EOR. Scope of the review is intended to address critical life safety issues set forth in only the Building Code, and is therefore not exhaustive. Structural review is limited to verification of design criteria and cursory examination of the plans and specifications. The review does not include the Accessibility, Plumbing, Mechanical or Electrical Codes. Any comments related to these disciplines are provided as a courtesy and are not an indication of thorough review of the discipline.
