RE: New Snow Creek Elementary School — Catawba County, NC
Dear Mr. Smith:
Construction Document submittal of the above project has been reviewed by the Engineering
Division — NCDOI for general compliance with the North Carolina State Building Code in
accordance with GS 58 -31-40 and the North Carolina Administrative Code and Policies
Section 104.1. This project is released for foundation and shell permit only. Prior to
release for upfit permit, the comments in this letter must be satisfactorily addressed. Code
sections quoted in this letter refer to Volume I of the North Carolina State Building Code,
2006 edition unless otherwise noted. Below are our comments:
We will await submittal of water flow test, hydraulic calculations and automatic
sprinkler shop drawings prior to upfit permitting. The automatic sprinkler system
drawings and calculations shall be prepared by a registered engineer or a
NICET Level III technician. Designer's signature and registration number shall
be provided on the drawings and calculations. [NC General Statute §87- 21(b)3
In addition, the drawings should bear the signed shop drawing stamp of the
Engineer of Record, indicating he has reviewed the drawings and calculations
and found them to comply with the project specifications and the NCSBC.
NCDOI's copy is for record purposes. Sprinkler drawings are requested to
verify the design was performed by a qualified design professional and to verify
that the FOR has properly reviewed the sprinkler drawings and coordinated
them with his drawings. Detailed checking of the sprinkler design is the
responsibility of the EOR.
Scope of the review is intended to address critical life safety issues set forth in only the
Building Code, and is therefore not exhaustive. Structural review is limited to verification of
design criteria and cursory examination of the plans and specifications. The review does not
include the Accessibility, Plumbing, Mechanical or Electrical Codes. Any comments
related to these disciplines are provided as a courtesy and are not an indication of
thorough review of the discipline. The Designers of Record and the General Contractor
are ultimately responsible for compliance with all provisions of the North Carolina State
