Note to contractors: Please submit your bids on this set of pages. All work shall be completed in
accordance with the Work Contract, the N. C. State Building Code and this Work Write -Up. No
substitutions for specified materials will be allowed unless approved in advance bythe Community
Development Staff.
You are expected to call or inspections of specked items where called for in the W ark Write -Up, as
well as those required by the Building Inspections Department. The contractor shall be responsible
for securing all permits. Upon completion, the contractor will be responsible for removing all debris
from the premises.
WORK TO BE PERFORMED
EXTERIOR WALLS COST
,4�Ynstall new vinyl siding with insulating backer board on all exterior walls
of house, using continuous comer post and proper trim and channels.
Color and pattern to be selected by the owner from samples furnished by
the contractor. Vinyl siding shall be "Alcoa", "Bird', "Cermineed ", or
equal, and shall comply with the provisions of the National Bureau of
Standards Voluntary Product Standard PS 55 -72. Siding shall have at
least a 20 year guarantee. Siding shall have a minimum thickness
of .035 ". Existing walls shall be made as even as possible by firring,
blocking and cutting prior to application of siding. Siding shall be
applied according to manufacturees instructions. Install all necessary
corners, angles, stops at windows, doors, etc., and all matching
accessories to make a first -class lob. Nailing should be approximately
18" intervals with aluminum nails. Installation Includes the boxing in and
covering of any exposed waste vent stacks with siding.
W. Install prefinished aluminum trim on all fascias, soffits, rakes, window
sills and trim; front porch ceiling, and all other miscellaneous exterior
Mm. Aluminum trim shall be"Ncoa", "Alvan ", or equal and shall comply
with the Specifications for Aluminum Soffit and Fascias, Architectural
Aluminum Manufacturers Association, AAMA 1404.01. Color shall be
selected by the owner and shall have aminimum guarantee of 20 years.
Soffit material is to be of the ventilated type, and may be of vinyl. N( OTE;
Remove horizontal wood soffits at from and rear of house to allow for attic
ventilation and Install wooden stripping as requ ired for the installation of
new ventilated soffit material.l Installation includes all accessories. Use
color matched acrylic caulking where needed for a neat, weather-tight
installation.

2. EXTERIOR DOORS
a. FRONT DOOR: Install a new pre -hung 6 panel steel insulated door,
complete with frame, hinges, stops, trim (both sides), magnetic weather
stripping, wide aluminum threshold and self - sealing sweep at bottom of
door. Install a now pick resistant entrance type lockset, and a single
cylinder dead -bolt lock, on new door. Entry locksets and dead-bolts b be
Schlage, Kwikset, Weiser, or an approved equal. All entry locksets, and
dead -bolls, front and side, shall be keyed alike. Install a "peep hole" type
one way viewing device in new door, at a height specified by the owner
Interior bfm to be stain grade (no finger jointing allowed).
b. REAR DOOR (EXIT OF BASEMENT): Install a new pre -hung 6 panel

aluminum framed, mill finish storm door, complete with all hardware,
mechanical closure, storm check, one screen and two glass panels.
4. NWI DOWS
a. Install new vinyl replacement window units at the location of all window
openings, including basement windows Replacement windows to be
double hung, double glazed (insulating glass) vinyl window units, with
screens. Install multiple window units to replace picture window at front of
living room. New window units to be of the type that till to the inside for
clearing.
FRONTPORCH
b. Point up all cracks and deteriorated mortar joints on the existing
steps. Relay all loose, broken, or missing masonry units with new to
match original as closely as possible.

G. REAR PORCH
a. Replace the existing wooden deck and wooden steps at rearof house with
new deck and steps of same size as existing. Landing to be constructed
using 2" X 8" floor joists spaced 16 "on writers and 2" X 6" flooding
spaced 116" apart. Landing to be supported by pressure treated 6" X6"
posts hearing on concrete footings. Install wooden railings around the
outside perimeter of landing. Railings to consist of a top and bottom 2" X
4" rail and 2" X 2" pickets, with a maximum of 4" clearance between
pickets. Top of railings to be 36" from landing floor. Step stringers to be
M from 2" X 12" material. Step tread to be of two 2" X 6" spaced 1/8"
apart. Steptread to overhang stringers 1" on from and 1 -112" on sides.
Maximum riserheighttobe 7 -112". Endose risers per code. Use three
stringers supported on a concrete footing at grade. Install a wooden
handrail on both sides new steps. Railings to consist of a tap and bottom
2" X 4" rail, and 2" X 2" pickets spaced not more than 4" apart. Low
end of railings to be fastened to a 4" X 4" pressure treated post,
securely anchored In yard. All construction to be of pressure treated
yellow pine.

der. Close fireplace opening by installing a 2" X 2"
pressure treated frame around the inside perimeter of fireplace opening,
and and covering with W birch plywood. Install 2"X 2" frame approximately
3" back from face of fireplace opening, and hold in place with TapCon or ( � x �
similar masonry screws. Install closed cell foam insulation between 2"X 'P -0ll
2" frame and 9 /." birch plywood to form an air seal between room and

S. GUTTERING AND DOWNSPOUTS
Install prefinished, seamless aluminum guttering on all fascias, with
adequate downspouts for proper drainage. Guttering to be secured with
spikes and sleeves set no more than 32" on canters. Color selection to
be made by the owner from samples furnished by the contractor. "Pipe -
off' the water flaw from downspouts by installing a minimum of 10' of 4"
flexible plastic drain line at each downspout. Drain line to be attached to
downspouts with adapters designed for this purpose. Plastic drain lines
are to be burled a minimum of 6" under grade for the length of piping
and brought W surface again at end of run in a non- eroding release.

9. ROOF
a. Remove all existing asphalt shingles down to sheathing. Install a layer of
15 lb. builders felt and new flberalass as�hall architectural shlnoles

New shingles to be self sealing type for wind resistance and are to be
installed in accordance With the manufacturer's instructions. Shingle
color to be selected by the owner from samples furnished by the
contractor. Furnish the owner with a warranty from the shingle
manufacturer. Install proper fleshings at all chimneys, plumbing vents,
valleys and junctions of roofs with walls. Install metal drip edge at all
gables. Install ridge venting, and/or flat mushroom type roof vents as
required to provide a minimum one sq. ft. of ventilation for each 300 sq. ft.
of attic space. Haul away all old roofing and removed materials. Protect
guttering, shrubbery, yard and structure.
10. HVAC

11. MOISTURE AND THERMAL CONTROL
(NOTE TO CONTRACTORS: An insulation certification card shall be
furnished by the contractor and posted at a conspicuous location within
the structure. This certification shall indicate the R- Value, minimum
Chic maximum coverage and ml Imum weight per square foot of

12. PLUM

work shall rformed by a licensed plumber.
13. ELECTRICAL
a. Install a new 200 amp. minimum circuit panel box with circuit breakers
and a main disconnect. Discontinue and remove all existing circuit panel
boxes and consolidate all new and existing circuits into the now panel
box. Installation includes the repair of all damage to wall surfaces after
removing existing panel boxes.
b. Install GFCI (ground fault) receptacles at the location of all existing
receptacles that would be required to have this type of breaker by current
code. Install a new GFCI receptacle in upstairs bath.
C. Install UL listed smoke detectors, with battery battery back_ at all locations
required by building code
d. Install an exhaust fan with wall mounted switch In downstairs bath.
Exhaust fan shall be ducted to the outside with necessary flashings.
Fan shall be Nutone or equal,
e. Have all existing electrical circuits and components checked by a licensed
electrician. Report, in writing, the condition of all existing circuits and
components to the Community Development staff.
NOTE: The design, construction, installation, adjusting and labeling of all
electrical equipment and accessones shall comply with the provisions of
the N. C. State Building Code. Al electrical work shall be performed by
a licensed electrical contractor.
14. PEST CONTROL
a. Have dwelling treated for termites, using approved chemicals applied to
the manufacturer's specifications. Exterminator shall provide the owner,
through the Community Development Office, with a certificate of treetmem
and a one year warranty.

15. EXTERIOR PAINTING
NOTE: Remove all loose and scaling paint from exterior surfaces to be
painted. Caulk around door and window frames to stop air infiltration.
Renall any loose exterior trim. Prime any bare spots and newcanstruction
with oil based exterior primer. Do not apply exterior paint in damp or
ralnyweather. Do not apply exterior paint when temperature is below 50
degrees F. Do not use any lead based palms. Color selection to be
made by the owner from samples furnished by the contractor.
a. Paint the outside of exterior doors, and all other miscellaneous exterior
woodwork not specifically mentioned with two coats of exterior latex
enamel. Paint all wrought iron with two coats of exterior oil based paint
formulated for use on metal, such as DeRusto.
16. LIVING ROOM & DINING ROOM
a. FLOOR: Remove existing carpet and padding. Install now carpet and
padding. Carpet shall be installed by using lack strips around perimeter
of room, and stretching and attaching carpet to tack ships. Carpet shall
be installed on a minimum of 3/8' composite pad. Carpet and backing
shall be a minimum of 28 oz. material per square yard. Carpet color and
Pattern to be selected by the owner from samples furnished by the
contractor.
