This letter is a follow up to the phone conversation of last week involving North Carolina State
Building Code requirements and Subterranean termite

Section 323.1 of the North Carolina State Residential Building Code titled "Subterranean termi
control" states,* Methods of protection shall be by chemical soil treatment or other methods
approved by the North Carolina Department of Agriculture.' Nothing in the North Carolina
Residential Building Code was intended to require any special type of soil treatment for any
particular type of construction. Attached is a Letter from the North Carolina Department of

Section 323.3.2 of the North Carolina State Residential Building Code was also not intended to
require any specific type of terionite protection, Attached is the latest printing of the
amendments to the 2002 Residential Code Section 324 including appendix Q, Section 324,3,3
Termite Control for foam plastic in contact with the ground refers to Section 324,1 which
