The F&R technician arrived on -site at the request of Mr, John Moretz, Wilkie Construction
Company, to conduct an evaluation of the excavated pier footings subgrade located at the
northeast building corner, ECS Charlotte previously performed a geotechnical subsurface
exploration of this site and recommended 3,000 psf bearing capacity,
The foundation subgrade consisted
other of residual soils (silty sand or weathered rock) in some areas
and fill soils in areas as noted on the attached DCP test data sheets, Hand probing the
surface soils with a steel Pin indicated firm soil conditio
ons, which was verified by Dynamic Cone
Penetrmeter (DCP) testing,
The F&R technician performed two DCP tests, with hand auger refusal encountered at about 1 5
to 2.5 feet below the bearing subgrade surface. The test results were supplied to Mr. Michael
Sloan, P.E. for his review. Based on the results of the DCP testing, the near surface foundation
bearing materials evaluated are suitable for support of the foundations designed based on an
allowable net bearing pressure of 3,000 Psf at the locations tested, The findings and DCP test
results are based on shallow subsurface hand angering; therefore, a deep investigative study
should not be inferred,
