The plan and specifications are approved with the following comments: l. This review does not include plumbing, mechanical, or electrical plans since they were not included �vith the submittal. 1. The alternate kitchen equipment plan on sheet A 1.3 and the equipment schedule on sheet A 11.0 are approved as shown. 2. Areas for student service such as the serving units must be provided with food shields to protect all un��rapped food or drink from the direct line of the student's mouth to the unprotected food. Unprotected food must be intercepted by glass or similar-type shields. The minimum standard for food shields recommended by NSF International shall be followed. 3. According to 15A NCAC 18A .2600, Rule .2630 "Lighting", at least 50 foot-candles of light must be -==--- -- provided at food preparation and utensil washing work levels. At least ten foot-candles of light at 30 inches above the f7oor must be provided in all other areas, inchiding storage rooms and walk-in coolers and freezers. 4. Food service equipment must be NSF International listed, Underwriters Laboratories Inc. (UL) Classified for Sanitation or, if not NSF or UL listed/classified, be constructed to meet current NSF/ANSI standards, according to 15A NCAC 18A .2600, Rule .2617 paragraph (d). All utensils and equipment, inclLtding cooler and freezer shelving units, must be commercial, durable and constructed of non-toxic and easily cleaned materials. 5. Ec�uipment should be installed according to the "Equipment Installation Guidelines" available in the "Guidelines For The Design, Installation and Construction of Food Establishments in North Carolina", on our web page at: www.deh.enr.state.nc.us/ehs/food/plan2.htm. Bids were taken , February 25, 2011 and the Catawba County School Board awarded this project last week. This above mentioned schedule will allow for the project to be completed this summer. This project has been reviewed by the local health department and they have added one hand-wash sink in the serving corridor (see attached revised sheet A1.2) and added epoxy paint to the toilet rooms and custodian's closet.
