Washing, Cleaning, Bathing, and Showering Guidance E Your water is suitable for washing, cleaning, bathing, and showering based on these inorganic results only. ❑ Showering and bathing time should be limited because of the potential exposure to inorganics via absorption through the skin and inhalation of water vapor. SPECIAL USE RECOMMENDATIONS For Individuals on a no or low sodium restricted diet • Sodium levels exceed the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (USEPA) Health Advisory level for sodium of 20 mg/l. The North Carolina Division of Public Health recommends that only individuals on no or low sodium restricted diets not use this water for drinking or cooking. It may be used for washing, cleaning, bathing, and showering based on the inorganic chemical results only. ADDITIONAL RECOMMENDATIONS IIIRe-sampling is recommended in 2 years. I I Immediate re-sampling is recommended to confirm results prior to installing a treatment system. Re-sample for lead and/or copper. Take a first draw and 30 second flush sample inside the house (preferably the kitchen sink) and a first draw and 4 minute flush sample at the well head to determine the source of the lead and/or copper. ADDITIONAL RECOMMENDATIONS ORe-sampling is recommended in 5 years. ❑ Immediate re-sampling is recommended to confirm results prior to installing a treatment system. ❑ You may want to install a treatment system or consider other options like bottled water or connecting to a public water supply, if possible. Treatment system options for organic contaminants are: Granular Activated Carbon(GAC) filters and Reverse Osmosis (RO) systems. Consult with your local well water contractor to determine the best option for your residence. If you purchase a water treatment system, resampling is recommended after installing the system to ensure that the treatment system is working as intended. Note that systems will require ongoing maintenance to ensure proper operation. For further information, please contact the Occupational and Environmental Epidemiology Branch at 919-707-5900
