Arndt Middle — Additions /Renovations APR 2 8 2010 1 L Reference # CBPR -2 -10 -3790 r Dear Steve This letter is in response to your review letter dated February 23, 2010. RESPONSES: 4 1. Special Inspections are required for this project per section 1704.1 of the NC Building Code, NC Building Code Council amendments to the section and Table 160. A Statement of Special Inspections should have been included in the specifications unless for some reason the printer inadvertently left it out. It is included in the set we are delivering with this letter. I 2. Sheet BC1.0: Provide correct square footages. Correct footage has been added to Sheet BC1.0. 3. Verify that no fire area exceeds 20,000 square feet. No area in the new construction exceeds 20,000 square feet of fire area. 2 -hour rated wall added, see sheet A1.4. 4. Sheet C2: Plans for relocation of mobile classroom trailer to be submitted and permitted separately. A note has been added in the drawings concerning obtaining a permit to move the trailer. s t CBSA Architects PAGE 2 5. Sheet C10: General Note —The new PVC roof drainage system material being installed shall meet the requirements of 2009 NCBC Table 1102.4. A section on PVC piping has been added to the specifications for storm drainage. 6. Sheet A1.0: Verify that the existing kitchen wall that meets the new storage room #107 and the new mechanical room #M124 is a 2 hour fire partition wall (2 hour separation must extend pas the mechanical room). See Sheets BC1.2 and BC1.3. A new 2 Hr Fire Wall has been added. 7. Sheet A1.0: Instrument storage room #411 and chorus storage #4136 exceed 100 square feet and are required to be 1 hour rated per 2009 NCBC Table 508.2. See revised Sheets A1.0 and A1.4. Walls around all new storage rooms exceeding 99 sq.ft. have been changed to 1 hour. i i 3 8. Sheet A1.0: Verify that the existing discharge from new door #6006 is handicap accessible and goes to the public way. i This is handicap accessible. Exit discharge from doors 600B is to a new sidewalk which I leads to an existing sidewalk which leads to a public way. See sheet C2. 9. Sheet AM: Verify that the existing kitchen wall that meets the new storage room #107 and the new mechanical room #M124 is a 2 hour fire partition wall (2 hour separation must extend past the mechanical room). F See Sheet AM. Our new 2 hr wall separates mechanical room M124 and storage 107. Existing — now bearing exterior walls qualify as 2 -Hr fire walls. 10. Complied, see revised Sheet A2.0. Door closers have been added to all classrooms. 14. Sheet A2.4: Provide vertical grab bars per ICC /ANSI A117.1 -2003 604.5.1. Complied, see revised Sheet A2.4. Vertical grab bars have been added at all handicapped toilets. 15. Sheet A4.1: Verify that access to new roofs is per the existing roof access ladder and all new roofs can be accessed. Verified. All roofs can be accessed from the existing ladder on the outside wall of the main mechanical room. 16. Sheet A6.2: Verify that stucco is over a drainable system. Shown on Sheet A6.2 and in specifications. A drainable substrate has been added to the synthetic stucco specification. i Plumbing, Mechanical and Electrical responses for items 17 through 39 are attached. i END OF RESPONSES P e ' The revised overall plan is attached for your use.
