R w f N T a#' ~'+l 1 INFORMATION FOR THE INSTALLER: - The permit should be read very carefully prior to bidding. The following are details that must be considered along with all other considerations. - Tanks shall be approved by NC DENR, and certification supplied by the manufacturer. - Tanks shall be water tested prior to installation. - The installer shall be responsible to the owner for placement of the tanks and to insure that final grades are returned to the original natural grade, with exception of added structural features. - The supply trench shall be compacted to eliminate cavities left during initial fill placement. - Installation of the system shall be during dry conditions in order to protect the soil structure. - All fittings shall be pressure rated fittings. - All joints shall be cleaned with PVC pipe cleaner and a heavy bodied glue applied to weld all joints. - Where required by the county health department, post installation inspections by the designer must be scheduled 5 week days in advance. - Trenches shall be carefully excavated so the bottom is within 2" from the highest to . the lowest points of elevation within the trench. If the bottom elevation needs adjusting after it has been trenched, it will be done by removing high points rather than filling low points. It is extremely important to insure that trenches are not over excavated during initial trenching. All fine grading within the trench will be hand done with a shovel. No loose material will be left in the trench - All pipe openings in the tanks shall be properly grouted. This also applies to the joints around the riser. - All tanks shall be properly back filled and compacted to prevent slump at a later date. - Earth dams, constructed of relatively impervious material, shall be installed at the beginning and end of each lateral. - No heavy equipment shall be used on the field during or after installation. The use of a small loader (i.e. Bobcat) or a trencher (i.e. Ditch Witch 2300/2310) may be used for installation. - Elevations at pinflag locations should be checked by the installer prior to beginning trenches. - Pumptank riser should be 6" above grade, control panel should be 12" above grade. - Septic tank riser shall be a minimum of 6" above finished grade. - System is specified as a PPBPS with pressure manifold installation. - Repair is NOT REQUIRED. - Rake trench walls, lime sidewalls, install trenches 36" wide and have no more than 1/4 " fall in 10 feet. - INSTALL TANKS 50' FROM CREEK. - REMOVE 6" OF FILL FROM SEPTIC AREA BEFORE INSTALLATION. 2 PRESSURE MANIFOLD SYSTEM FOR WASTEWATER TREATMENT Owner: Jim Goodwin Address: 3750 Tower Rd. The design recommendations proposed a prefabricated permeable block panel system, to be dosed by a pressure manifold with downline gravity distribution. This specific design, while meeting the current regulatory requirements, is not recommended by Catawba County Environmental Health at this time due to questions concerning efficient distribution of effluent under pressure once it enters the end of each trench over an extended period of time, especially if not extremely well-maintained. An alternative proposal, specifically a low pressure distribution system, has been discussed with the system designer. You were informed of the potential limitations of the proposed system, and advised concerning the benefits of the alternative low pressure system in a telephone conversation on February 25, 2010. In addition to the benefits of a low pressure system distribution method, the requirement to have a professional certified operator to periodically assess system function provides long-term care not necessarily afforded by the designer-proposed method. At this time I feel I have done all in my power to make to you, the best recommendation for future system maintenance and function possible, especially since there remains no available repair space for a future system replacement if your system should malfunction. Please contact me if you wish to discuss this issue further or if I may be of additional assistance. ~OPSH CARO 9 ♦ f Accredited ~ ~ g Health r^, ° Deoartmenrr 2008-2012 v GREATER 'Weeping the Spirit Alive Since 1842!" Pressure distribution (e.g., LPP) is required for systems with a design flow greater than 480 gpd. Feel free to call to discuss further, as needed. The manifold with it's dose gives the panel a down line distribution keeping it high in the soil profile much the same as Ipp. This type of distribution is doing very well in the field for us. I also looked at the drawing of the layout and would make it a part of the permit that the drainfield is not used in the construction as staging or in any way disturbed by putting up fencing around the site of the field Call if you have any questions.
