Construction documents for the Newton-Conover Middle - new school project were mehred on December 28.
2009. The following architectural review comments are submitted to the designer and the Newton Conover city
Schools for consideration in accordance with G.S.116Ca21. Comments by other disciplines, if any, will be
forw2rded under separate cover. A Certificate of Review will be issued after plan review has been completed.
* 1. ".Code The newest edition of the Building Code Acoaasibility provisions require a second sceesstble
bathroom stall when six or more flushing rodur+es are provided. The fixture count includes
urinals. -This Wiles to bathrooms shown on Sheet A4.02
* 2. Qldg. Code There is one elwvatar. The manual gates for separation of the Gym after-hours prevent
use of
the Area A after hours when the gates are dom. Whne no occupancy may be intended, it is
not reasonable to expect that use of any level of Area A can or should be prevented white the
Gym or Auditorium are in use after-twurs,
" 3. Bldg. Code There is no after-hours gate shown on the Third f=loor plan eimiar to the First and Second
Floors. This short-dreuits the security kftrK d by the other gates on other floors.

10, Site Plan The area at the outer comer of the lot provides an opportunity to create an outdoor shaded area
for learning, small group or individual informal study.

14. Security The area outside Gym Corridor 163 and Boiler 165 is a security hazard that will be hard to
supervise. While at is understood that a second exit iS required from the Boller Room the
cwftum*m of the long recess compounded by the fenced area will be difficult to secure and
mBwftn safe. The second Boiler Room W can also be provided es a vertical ladder to a roof
hatch.
15. Health A Bathroom accessible directly from the Health Room is recommended for ease of use and

than 4' wide..
* 17. Sidg. Code There are three exterior sloped walkways at the front of the building. One adjacent to the
Administration area and two adjacent to the Auditorium. The Vortical height being negotiated
appears tO be 2e" When a slope is between 1:12 and 120 it Is considered a ramp requiring
handrails and a nmdmum run of Ur. The sloped walkways shown are apprcxlmatey 181, 46
and 55' making them appear to be ramps for Code purposes. Please review,
18. Science There are no obvious provlsbns for safe storage of Science materials.
