Subject: Summary of Light Pole Foundations
Walgreens #12484
Hickory, North Carolina
Dear Mr. Edwards:
ECS, Carolinas, LLP (ECS) has visited the site, as requested, to perform GPR (ground
penetrating radar) and R-Meter testing. The purpose of our visit was to determine the reinforcing
steel placement for the 10 light poles with regard to spacing and size.
Using the GPR and R-meter to determine the steel placement and size, test results indicated
that the reinforcing steel was placed per detail 1 on sheet E0.1; 545 verticals with #3 ties at 12
inches on center were observed. One area was excavated to the bottom to verify spacing of the
#3 ties and to test the soils.
The light poles were constructed in residual soils excavated eight feet below curb elevation as
specified. ECS performed one soil bearing inspection, using dynamic cone penetration testing in
accordance with ASTM D-399 to check soil bearing capacities. The soils were found to be
suitable for a bearing capacity of 3,000-psf at the areas and elevations tested.
ECS appreciates the opportunity to be of service. If you have any questions regarding this letter
or if we may be of further assistance, please do not hesitate to call.
Respectfully,
ECS Carolinas, LLP
