' John C. Roberts 1292 INTRODUCTION Three Oaks Engineering (Three Oaks) was retained to locate any existing septic system components and evaluate areas potentially suitable for a repair septic system, when appropriate, in regards to the widening of NC Hwy 16 (R-3100). The purpose of this evaluation was to determine if the parcel can support a new initial system and repair area for an existing three-bedroom single family residence. The property was evaluated in accordance with North Carolina statutes for waste disposal ("Laws and Rules for Sewage Treatment and Disposal Systems", amended October 2011). STUDY AREA DESCRIPTION & INVESTIGATION METHODOLOGY The subject parcel consists of maintained lawn and an existing three-bedroom home (360 GPD) serviced by a private water supply. A pool is located behind the home. A portion of the existing initial septic system is located within proposed improvements for NC Hwy 16. Soil borings were advanced with a hand-auger and soil color was determined with a Munsell Soil Color Chart. Observations of the landscape(slope, drainage patterns, etc.) as well as soil properties (depth, texture, structure, soil wetness, restrictive horizons, etc.) were recorded. Push probes were used to search for buried septic system components. FINDINGS The field survey was conducted on July 26, 2016, by John C. Roberts, LSS and Evan Morgan, LSS- IT. Four(4) soil borings were advanced within the proposed septic system and their locations shown on the attached figure. All soil borings were rated as Provisionally Suitable for Conventional Systems. Surface soil horizons typically exhibited friable, sandy clay loam textured surfaces with weak, medium, subangular blocky structure. Subsurface horizons exhibited a friable or firm, clay loam texture with moderate, medium, subangular blocky structure to greater than 48 inches. A long- term acceptance rate (LTAR) of 0.35 gal/day/sqft is recommended for these soils. Detailed soil boring descriptions are attached. PROPOSED SEPTIC SYSTEM A portion of the existing system will be impacted by the proposed improvements for Hwy 16, as shown on the attached site plan. As such, a septic system layout was completed. The septic system has been demonstrated with various colored pin flags delineating proposed septic drainlines. System locations and proposed Hwy 16 improvements are shown on the attached figure. Power and TV utility lines are located in the proposed septic system area. These utilities will need to be relocated outside of the proposed septic system area. A pump tank will need to be installed to properly distribute wastewater to the septic drainfield. The septic system layout information is attached. Initial System The initial system can utilize 258-ft of Accepted System drainline (L5-L8), or equivalent, with wastewater distributed via a pump. Drainlines are proposed to be installed on contour with a trench bottom depth of 18 to 20 inches below the existing surface. I R-3100A Parcel 90-System Layout I July 28, 2016 Three Oaks Job#7618 Repair System The repair system can utilize 258-ft of Accepted System drainline (Ll-L4), or equivalent, with wastewater distributed via a pump. Drainlines are proposed to be installed on contour with a trench bottom depth of 18 to 20 inches below the existing surface. CONCLUSIONS The findings presented herein represent Three Oaks' professional opinion based on our knowledge of the current laws and rules governing on-site wastewater systems in North Carolina. A Soil Evaluation & System Layout was completed within the subject parcel. Based upon the information obtained from the Soil Evaluation & System Layout, an adequate area of soil rated as Provisionally Suitable for Conventional Systems exists to support relocation of the initial system and provide 100% repair area for the existing three-bedroom home (360 GPD). Soils naturally change across a landscape and contain many inclusions. As such, attempts to quantify them are not always precise and exact. Due to this inherent variability of soils and the subjectivity when determining limiting factors, there is no guarantee that a regulating authority will agree with the findings of this report.
