All newly constructed private drinking water wells are required to be sampled in accordance with the North
Carolina Rules Regarding Private drinking Water Well Testing (15A NCAC I8A .3800). The fee for this
sampling is included in the cost of the well permit. It is the applicant or property owner's responsibility to
notify Environmental Health when the well is ready for sampling.
Water samples will be drawn from an outside faucet unless otherwise specified. Please note that all water samples are
taken during one visit. The processing laboratories have different protocols and timeframes for reporting results;
therefore,you may receive several different reports concerning your water sample. For questions or more information,

• Do not cut, drive, fill, or grade over septic or repair areas.
• Septic system must be 10 ft from property lines; 50 ft from wells and streams; 5 ft from
building foundations and appurtenances; 10 ft from top of bank; 25 ft from interceptor
drain; and out of right-of-ways and easements.
• Install a 1,000 gallon septic tank and 160 linear feet of 50% reduction system (PPBPS); 4
lines on contour were flagged out(47'top, 50', 50', and 34'bottom).
• Final grade of septic area must shed surface water off and away from system.
• Well must be 25' from buildings, 50 feet from proposed repair on lot and 40 feet from
southern property line.
• If needed well driller should schedule meeting with Catawba County Environmental
Health with any questions before starting.
